Shorter than normal show this year, as Rebellious Jukebox ran over into my slot. But it was to help support the station, so I can't complain too much. Having WBNY around so I can do this each year is worth losing the 15 minutes over.

Also I was unoriginal and worked TV themes in to the show again in between songs, but everything flowed pretty smoothly, and other than one small miscue I did not have any major screwups for a change!! Yay me. :) My only regret is that I found out I could have recorded it a little too late for me to grab a flash drive and do so. Oh well. Next year.

1st hour (8:15ish - 9:00 PM) :

The Ruby Suns - Tane Mahuta
The Bubblemen - The Bubblemen Are Coming

Fred Schneider And The Shake Society - Monster
Peter And The Test Tube Babies - Louise Wouldn't Like It
The Stone Roses - Something Burning
Peter, Bjorn And John - Dig A Little Deeper
Theme from Mission Impossible
That Petrol Emotion - Hey Venus

2nd hour (9:00 - 10:00 PM)

The 29th Annual WBNY Alumni Weekend is set for April 15 - 17, 2011. More to follow, assuming I get an air shift this year.

Also, still very sad over hearing about Nicholas Courtney's passing, but I'm failing at coming up with words right now, so I'll just put up the discussion post link here. Edit: Here is a link from Tom Baker's blog, also.

And work is eating my face so that's all for now!

It's here! It's here!

If you want to tune in, just go to http://www.wbnyalumni.com and click on the listen live button!

(You can listen to me specifically from 10-12 tonight if you want but if you can't, do feel free to tune in whenever you want. There's going to be some good stuff this weekend!)

I am using too many exclamation points and I don't care!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)
graceomallet: (Default)
Not that anyone cares, but. :)

I'll be on-air from 10pm - 12 midnight (Eastern) Friday, April 23rd. That will be this Friday, so if you're bored, go to http://www.wbnyalumni.com/ and click on the 'listen live' button!

And if there's something alternative you want to listen to, comment below and I'll see if I can play it. (Assuming I can find it and someone before me hasn't played it and it's not full of swears, that is.)
graceomallet: (Default)
Right now it looks like I'll be doing the 10-12 pm (ET) shift on Friday, April 23rd, which is WAY better than last yeas overnight shift.

If anyone wants to listen, go to http://www.wbnyalumni.com/ and klick on the 'Listen Live' link. (I believe you'll need Windows Media Player to listen, IIRC.)

I don't have any ideas for themes, so it'll just be a matter of playing things I like that a certain sibling of mine and whoever it is that is following her haven't already played.
Go look at the tag if you want an idea of the odd stuff I generally play. :)
graceomallet: (Default)
Got the save the date email - it'll be from April 23rd until April 25th. So I need to ask for the day off of work on Friday and see if I can't get an evening shift, as well as figure out what pain and suffering...er, I mean what wonderfully fun music I should play.

Hm. I do have that Davy Jones album. Maybe bring that and a copy of some of Frazer Hines' stuff and do cheesy 60's music as the theme? I'd have to hit some estate sales or the Salvation Army or something though and try and get enough music that I can work it in in between the usual stuff and nonsense (and make sure there's actually needles for the turntables).

Eh, I'll have to think about it when I'm a little less brain fried.
graceomallet: (Default)

It's that time of year again, where I take over the airwaves at WBNY for Alumni Weekend!. This year is the Insomniac Special, coming to you live on Saturday, April 25th, from 2:00 AM until 4:00 AM Eastern Time. Yes, that is the correct time. So if you can't sleep, tune in through the web at http://www.buffalostate.edu/wbny/webradio/. It will likely get very odd around 3 am or so when I start getting tired. :)

However, if you sleep like normal human beings and can't listen, tune in Sunday from 1:00 pm - 4:00 PM when Rebellious Jukebox takes over the airwaves. More info can be found at http://www.wbnyalumni.com/ - just scroll down the page a little. Even if you can't donate, it's going to be lots of fun to listen to.

As I generally do, here is my playlist for my 4th of July fill-in show. There were some small issues - mis-cued CDs, cranky CD players and the like. And then there was the issue of running out of time. I didn't even get to play any Shatner (Mostly because I couldn't find my CD)! But it was a fun time. :) I like the new Elvis Costello, I love the new Charlatans and I was unimpressed by the new B-52s. And I actually played a Camper Von Beethoven song that was NOT "Take the Skinheads Bowling". Go me!

graceomallet: (Default)
So, if you're really bored on the 4th of July between 8-11 PM ET(like if you don't do fireworks or they get rained out or you're really bored, like I said), I shall be doing an airshift at my old college radio station, WBNY. The beautiful thing is, WBNY has a web presence, so even if you're not within range of the 100-watt transmitter (/I'm/ not even in the range of that freakin' transmitter anymore), you can listen here:

http://www.buffalostate.edu/wbny/webradio/ - it has a linky on the page, which I will check when I get home, cause I can't at work. You need windows media player to listen.

So, I am plugging. My sister, [livejournal.com profile] squidexplosion will be on before me, from 5-8 pm. :)
graceomallet: (Default)

graceomallet: (icon by crushablepink (evil!))
WBNY turned 25 the day before I turned *mumble*. While I usually do an airshift in April, it turns out I will also be doing one next weekend as there is a whole slew of things happening for the 25th anniversary of the station including...another Alumni Weekend!. Currently, I am scheduled from 12-2 AM ET Saturday October 27th, with my seester, [livejournal.com profile] squidexplosion on after me. So if you can't sleep or live somewhere where 12-2 actually translates into reasonable hours, tune in online!

Fair warning to those of you who don't actually know me in RL. I play weird, weird, weird music. This will likely not change in the next week and a half or so, so there will be some odd things a-happenin' at the old college station. And if you are curious about the events going on, check out here.
graceomallet: (Default)
And another group of listeners have survived my idea of interesting songs. :) This year was the Tribute to The "Good Bad Music" show, originally done by my sister, DJ Elegia in 2005. For those interested in finding out what some of the utter pain was, here is the list:

(*indicates a show originally played on "Good Bad Music", May 13th, 2005)

Hour 1:

* Divine - Kick Your Butt
* Robert Mitchum - Not Me
Lime Spiders - Weirdo Libido
Housemartins - People Who Grinned Themselves to Death (partial: cut due to skips)
* Kristy and Jimmy McNichol - Hot Tunes
XTC - This Is Pop
* ATARI - Missile Command
The Firm - Star Trekkin'
* Nichelle Nichols - Star Trek
* Leonard Nimoy - Highly Illogical
* William Shatner - Rocket Man
* Brent Spiner - It's a Sin (To tell a Lie)
Moxy Fruvous - King of Spain
Fred Schneider & The Shake Society - Monster
Splatcats - Surfin' Hearse
* Eric Winstone and his Orchestra - Dr. Who Theme
Devo - Through Being Cool

Hour 2:

They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Brownsville Remix)
They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng
They Might Be Giants - Spy
* Mar-Tie - Beethoven
Wonderstuff - No, For The 13th Time
* Baby Lu-lu - Jesus Loves Me
Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan - Tennessee Bird Walk (partial: bridge to...)
Dead Alewives - Dungeons And Dragons
* Joel R. Cooper - Cup of Jesus
Miller Music - Batman Theme
* Van Morrison - Ringworm
Fleshtones - Hide and Seek (live version)
Pixies - Debaser
* Myron Floren - Disco Accordion
* Liberace - Liberace's Twist
Go Betweens - Spring Rain
The Connells - Pawns (was supposed to be Over There but there's always one song I seem to mess up a show... :) )
* Dick Clark - Open Letter to the Older Generation
* Princess Ramona - Then I Start To Yodel

And we have found two things:
1: Sesame Pocky is NASTY and to be avoided at all costs.
2: See 1, above. Now, technically, that's only one thing but it is SO nasty I thought it bore mentioning twice (Quote paraphrased unabashedly from Red Dwarf, btw)!

What will I do next year? I have no idea. But hopefully it'll be just as obnoxious. I like being obnoxious. It's fun. :)
graceomallet: (Default)
It has been confirmed - I will be on this Sunday from 6-8 pm, spinning those crazy tunes like I do. Again, if you're not in the Buffalo area and want to listen, go here:
http://bscvs01.buffalostate.edu/wbny .

This'll be fun!!
graceomallet: (Icon by lilbreck (pathetic))
Yup. It's just about that time of year, where I go mess around on college radio for a couple of hours and play songs that make people cringe. This year, it appears I am scheduled for Sunday, April 15th, from 6-8 pm and plan on doing a tribute to a show my sister did in 2005 called "The Good Bad Show", where many...interesting...songs were played. Fortunately for everyone's sanity, I'm going to mix in some other songs that are more palatable than say, William Shatner singing "Rocket Man".

The really good news? WBNY finally has streaming radio access! The link is http://bscvs01.buffalostate.edu/wbny . It tends to default to Windows Media player on my computer so I do not know if non-windows based PCs will be able to get it to work. If you want to listen to the entire weekend, you can get the schedule here. And of course, everyone is more then welcome to listen at other times as well: List of regular shows on that other blogging place that is not LJ or Facebook.
graceomallet: (Default)
Today was my sister's last regular show at WBNY. One or the other of us have been there since I started college in 1989. (Yes, I realize that's a giveaway about my age, but I don't care. It's not like I'm old or anything. :) ) I still do Alumni Weekend every year, and I'm sure my sister will do that eventually as well...but it's not the same. It was a really excellent show - a lot of people came down and hung out, good music was played, some tasty food was had and all in all it was a good note for her to go out on. Still, it is the end of an era, in a way. And a little sad. But sometimes, you just need to move in a different direction. I would say 'move on', but I don't quite think it counts as I still do stuff there. :P
graceomallet: (icon by angelite)
Two hours goes really really fast, I can assure you. I had a great time, as usual, and quite enjoyed hanging out at Mowhawk Place afterwards. Met up with a couple of people I haven't seen in over a decade, so that was very nice. And as usual, here is the playlist, lj-cut for your friends list sanity...

Still doing 6-8pm tommorrow, and unfortunately is a no-go on the podcast. So if you live in Downtown Buffalo and want to tune it, it's 91.3 on your FM dial. If you hear jazz, it's not me, it's another station interfering. :)
